What a wonderful guide to the magnificent Sammi Smith - so much to absorb here. I found a couple of her records in a thrift store when I was about 13 and bought them for the covers (that yellow halter top!) without knowing a thing about her and fell in love. Can’t wait to listen my way through this. I don’t think I saw ‘You’re Gonna Love Yourself In The Morning’ on here - that was one of my favourites.

Thank you! And you're right, "You're Gonna..." is indeed a good one. Too many of those to include them all.

Thank you, Joyce. (Keep up your good work writing about all this mess right now. Vital stuff. I always feel inspired/motivated after reading it. Thank you)

Thank you for this! All I knew of Sammi Smith was her great cover of ‘Help Me Make It…’, but many of the track you write about here are really wonderful. ‘Cheatin’s A Two Way Street’ is an stunning track

Thank you David! Sammy Smith is one of my all-time favorite singers. I play her music often on my radio program and was fortunate enough to see her many years ago at one of the clubs in Nashville on what was at least then called Printers Alley. Your commentary is as always beautifully written and very informative. You are the best. Carl Goldstein

Thank you, Carl. I envy your seeing Sammi perform so often. I saw her only once, when she appeared w/ her son Waylon as he made his Opry debut.

I mentioned it in the comments on the FB thread. My favorite is a live cut of Heart of a Clown. OKC with ex Bob White. I was thinking this was possibly circa 1962 ? I’m at the age what I think I know might not necessarily be reality. Like forgetting to put on pants when I leave the house…
