Hype Yourself: David Cantwell writes about "96 Tears" for HILOBROW
A contribution to the site's "Stooge Your Enthusiasm" series
At HILOBROW, main man Joshua Glenn is heading another of his excellent Enthusiasm series—this time “Stooge Your Enthusiasm,” a month’s worth of short essays on writers’ favorite “proto-punk” records, broadly defined. David contributed his thoughts on ? and the Mysterians “96 Tears.” Check it out! And while you’re there, treat yourself to another couple (or half dozen or more!) of the site’s Enthusiasm series. David has previously contributed short essays on Porter and Dolly’s “We Found It” to the “Dolly Your Enthusiasm” series on 1960s and ‘70s country singles, and on The Waltons to the “Kojack Your Enthusiasm” series about 1970s television shows. No matter your interests, Josh has probably devoted a series to it and lined up some great writers to boot—Lucy Sante, Carl Wilson, and Douglas Wolk are just a few of his stable of regular contributors.
Next week at NFR…it’s Rolling Stones Week!
Hooray! So pleased that you could participate in this series... and so thrilled to read each new installment of NO FENCES REVIEW.
