My love for seeing Johnston get some much-deserved appreciation is offset by finding out that he played a show in LFK and I missed it.

I still remember my first listen of "Can You Fly" and the effect it had on me as a young man in the early 90s.

Thank you for this! I only know Freedy Johnston through "The Perfect World," a melancholy album which spoke to my (then) young adult angst and sense of isolation. I am going to listen to your list. AND, I did not know he was a Midwesterner, but it makes total sense.
